I recently read in Wired about America’s Army: Operations, a new first-person-shooter produced at the cost of $7 million dollars (about the same price as a M1A3 tank, incidentally) by the US Army. It’s a free, online game and (perhaps disturbingly effective) recruitment tool. I wonder, will the Army track stats on the best players, and invite them to join the Navy SEALs? Will it pass data about sharp-shooters with Middle Eastern aliases on to the CIA?
All of this is rather eerily reminiscent of a certain Simpsons episode featuring the Party Posse and their number one single, “Drop the Bomb”. YVAN EHT NIOJ!
