Go On, Latvia

Tomorrow, Euro 2004 starts. This is a major football soccer tournament that features the best national teams of Europe. It’s a very entertaining competition, and enables me to watch 6 hours of soccer for the next few weekends. For some reason, soccer makes me yell at the TV a lot more than hockey or other sports. Perhaps it’s the sport’s inherent injustices?

As Ireland didn’t qualify, I’ll be supporting the least-likely victor. Latvia, you’ve got a new fan. Now, where can I get an appropriately-fetching Latvia national team jersey?

North American fans are fortunate that Euro 2004 is occurring in that western bit of Europe, Portgual. This makes for entirely-acceptable start times for the games. If you want to fake your way through a game or two, the BBC has an excellent primer.

It is the best Association Football tournament in the world. There are very few insignificant games and very few crap teams. Glad to hear it makes you shout at the TV I feel like we achieved something during your time with us.
