Booth Babes Explained

The article is overly-wrong, sloppily-written and a little pointless, but it’s the first one I’ve ever read about booth babes. For those who don’t know or can’t guess, booth babes are scantily-clad window dressing at conferences. They stand around and try to attract passing conference attendees. This article discusses E3, the big gaming conference that occurs each year. So, the attendees are pretty nerdy:

I ask if she’s comfortable with so many guys posing with her. “It’s weird when they put their arms around me,” she replies, “but then I feel them shaking and I’m like, whatever, if it’s so important to you . . . it’s funny when guys come up to me and tell me that it’s their first time touching a girl.”

Well that’s more than a little sad, isn’t it?

Reminds me of a Courier article on coat check girls… they have to fight off obnoxious drunks.

At least gamer-nerds are relatively harmless (except during heated debates about Star Wars, then they get really obnoxious).

It amazes me how often the Courier can screw up a perfectly good story by making it too long, too introspective or both.

I was interested at the beginning, but when the article’s lead is “You can tell a lot about people by the coats they wear” and runs on for three paragraphs, I’m already tempted to give up. Then there’s the 300-odd words profiling these coat check girls before we even get around to their job. Interesting topic, weak article.
