Here’s a chart showing obesity rates (with a Body Mass Index higher than 30) on a per-state basis over the past 13 years. Just as British Columbia is the healthiest province in Canada, Colorado is the thinnest state in the union. At the other end of the scale, a quarter of Mississippi’s population is seriously overweight. What’s most worrying is that the numbers for most states have doubled since 1991. As this page shows, the western states are generally healthier than the eastern ones. There’s even a nifty PowerPoint presentation which shows the states changing colour over time.
