1958 Free iPods and Counting

The Unofficial Apple Weblog reports that Pepsi Canada is giving away one iPod an hour between now and Christmas. That’s 1958 iPods left to win:

It was only about 20 years ago that Steve Jobs asked John Scully, the Pepsi CEO, if he was content selling sugared water to kids or if he’d rather be a part of something that could change the world. We all know how well THAT turned out.

Pepsi North America and Apple gave away 100 million free songs earlier this year as part of the iTunes music store launch. Now Pepsi Canada is upping the ante by giving away one iPod every hour from now until Christmas. That’s more than 2000 iPods. And a lot of sugared water.

I like your odds in this contest. First, it’s only Canada. Then, it’s only Pepsi drinkers. And it’s very early in the promotion, so there will be fewer participants. Plus, you enter an hourly draw, so if you choose hours where few people are likely to enter (late in the day Pacific time, for example), your odds wouldn’t be ridiculous. Plus, you don’t even need to drink Pepsi to enter. You can generate one PIN code an hour on the site. If I didn’t already have an iPod, I’d get cracking.

In case anyone is searching around for the free PIN code thing, you have to click on the “No Purchase Necessary Details” link at the bottom of the pop-up windows. You have to enter your details again and take a survey.

We’ll see how this thing goes ;)

Thanks for the heads up darren and filmgoerjuan.

That is the most awkward site I’ve come across in a long time.

2 hours and I still haven’t won an iPod — this site sucks! ;)

Additionally, the free PIN thing is now timing out on me…so much for “no purchase necessary”.

And I totally agree with you, julie, it’s a counterintuitive Flash interface.

Day 2 and I’m getting more timeout errors when submitting the survey for the no purchase necessary PIN. Seems to be the only part of the site that’s not working (gee, go figure). Pretty lame if you ask me.
