A Quick Note on Meetup
Back in summer, Richard wrote an interesting post about the shortcomings of social networking sites like Meetup and Upcoming. He pointed out that I managed to organize a couple blogger meetups (details on the next one here) without relying on these sites. He shared my displeasure that Meetup is too regularized–it presumed that all humans want to meet once a month, on the same day.
Apparently, as found in Waxy’s link blog, Meetup has loosened these restrictions. Unfortunately, I can’t find any details on the Meetup site (or elsewhere on the Web) describing the details of these changes. It might behoove Meetup to, you know, inform its users of these changes. Maybe they sent an email that got spam-blocked?
UPDATE: As you’ll see in the comments, Dervala writes to point out the location of Meetup’s new features. I have apparently been spared the deluge of emails on these improvements by my spam filter (or, perhaps, my frontal lobe filter). I’m still a tad confused about why the regular Meetup page doesn’t advertise the new features–are they in beta?
