An Unflinching Look at Fallujah

Though they’re collected from various media outlets, these aren’t the sort of thing you’re likely to see on the American nightly news. Via Metafilter, these images are extremely graphic, and not for the faint of heart. That said, if you support the war in Iraq, you ought to have a good look at each of them.

On a related note, via BoingBoing, here’s another unfortunate story that comes out of Fallujah. It concerns a US marine shooting an unarmed prisoner. That doesn’t shock me–it’s a pretty common practice in war–but it’s noteworthy that the media were there to document it.

I would love more descriptive captions to those pictures, like pointing out which of these bodies belongs to terrorists, or those who were firing weapons on the U.S. soldiers the day before, those who operated in the rape rooms or the torture chambers… Pictures of bodies piled up doesn’t do much for me. This is war.

Context would be nice. Right now, all we have is a blogger on a meaningless tirade.

I agree. These photo’s are deeply disturbing, especially when children are involved. As much as I hate war, what is the alternative? Live under constant fear and opression by radical terrorists that seem to care nothing for their own people?

  3. Karl Says:

Mike - if you think you’re living under constant fear and opression because of radical terrorists (sic) in Fallujah, you’ve clearly been watching way too much Fox News

  4. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

The truth is - those children are victims of terrorists who held their city hostage. The American military could have just as easily bombed the city back to the stone age to clear out the insurgents, but didn’t.
