I know. I mention Mozilla Firefox a lot. However, I’d be remiss in not at least mentioning what the rest of the Internet is talking about this morning: the official launch of Mozilla Firefox 1.0 (SpreadFirefox.com is getting 0wNzeD, bandwidth-wise, at the moment). Jeremy has a handy list of where you can download it, including the FTP server and a Windows Bittorrent link. Google has (somewhat inexplicably) launched a Firefox-branded search page.

Chris Small nitpick: Mozilla 1.0 has been out for a long time (they’re at 1.7ish now). Firefox 1.0 is the new product being released.
Chris Netscape isn’t bad – it’s a hell of a lot better than IE. But it also has a lot of unnecessary stuff. What Netscape does is take Mozilla, brand it with the Netscape name, set the default home page to netscape.com or whatever, and add a bunch of links to Netscape partners.
If you don’t use Netscape mail, then Firefox would probably be much better for you. It’s only browser, so it won’t have all the extra memory overhead dragging you down, and Firefox is much more feature rich and extensible (since Netscape always uses a version of netscape that’s a few months old).
If in doubt, download Firefox (it’s Netscape isn’t bad – it’s a hell of a lot better than IE. But it also has a lot of unnecessary stuff. Anonymous I don’t use Netscape mail- rather Outlook, yes I know :-P Having tried Firefox earlier today, I will stick with Netscape, no reason other than I’m stubborn and set in my ways :-)

Chris Outlook itself isn’t too bad of a mail client, if you’ve got your security permissions set up right. I just prefer Thunderbird because, well, it doesn’t cost several hundred dollars.
Oh, and if you meant Outlook Express, then your computer is probably being taken over by hackers as we speak. OE is a massive security hole.

It’s a bit of marketing genius for both Google and Firefox, I think. When you install Firefox 1.0, one of the options is a “use Firefox as my start page” checkbox. If you leave that checked, your start page URL redirects to the Google Firefox page you noticed.
