What Do You Think is the Most Beautiful Word?

As Udge adroitly points out in the comments of the previous entry, we need a survey on the most beautiful word in English for native speakers. I ought to mention that Udge is apparently in Stuttgart. I wonder, how’s the schweinhaxen this time of year?

Before we can have a vote, we need to gather some options. In the comments, tell me your choice for the most beautiful English word. This Google search may give you some ideas.

Long ago, I had a discussion with a friend about what our favourite words were, and hers were “freedom, but that was for the meaning of the word. (Besides, she was a libertarian.)

My favourite English word is “epitome”, just because it’s fun to spell out loud.

Hm, do we get an ‘non native speaker extra award jury’? ;o)

I rather like “Euphemism” both for the sound of the word and its meaning.

Another beautiful word is “Home”, although “Beauty” itself is rather pleasant.

Since you asked: “Schweinehaxen” is the left rear leg of a pig, lightly grilled. It’s a Bavarian speciality, well suited to their somewhat crude and simplistic lifestyle. We Swabians have more refined palates. My favourite dish is “Semmelknödel mit Pfefferlinge”, a big bran dumpling with yellowish tangy mushrooms in a creamy sauce.
