Sleeping in Airports

I missed the article, but the Vancouver Sun recently ran a piece about MetroNaps sleep pods at Vancouver International Aiport. From the company’s website:

The MetroNaps pod was designed with one thing in mind: the Powernap. Its contours are perfect for napping; its mechanical processes are perfect for waking. The MetroNaps pod is the culmination of three years of research. It is built with the highest quality materials and workmanship.

It’s CAN $15 for the first 20 minutes, and $5/5 minutes thereafter. That seems like highway robbery, but I’d probably pay it in a second to score thirty or forty minutes of shut-eye to offset the jetlag.

While searching for this new gadget, I happened upon the excellent website Sleeping in Airports. Reports about Vancouver’s airports are generally positive.

Saw it in the paper today - apparently the initial deal is $15 for two hours, which strikes me as a good price… $15 for 20 minutes is a bit high…

Richard: That’s just the introductory rate. The regular rate (according to the Globe and Mail), is as I stated it.

Oh, yeah - the introductory rate is the SANE one… The one that I’d actually consider paying. These would be great in college lobbies too - I know I would have made use of them there…

Another great travel resource (while we’re on travel) is Fly Budget.com A complete listing of North American and European budget airlines, along the start and end cities. It’s AMAZING how many there are, especially in Europe. I mean, I knew Ryanair, but had no idea budget airlines went to soooo many places. The site is a pet project of an avid budget-traveller, who goes by the moniker Fwoggie.
