What’s with all the Munches (Munchs?) getting stolen recently (via Monsieur Dvorak)?
Three stolen works of art by Edvard Munch — including a unique watercolor entitled “Blue Dress” — were recovered Monday, less than 24 hours after thieves with crowbars prised them from the walls of an upscale restaurant.
Ironically, the thefts and their ensuing publicity probably do much to increase the value of Munch’s work.
Andrea This is seriously geeky, but I am stumped on the question of Munches versus Munchs. The rule for surname plurals is that names that end in ch, x, s or s sounds require “es” for the plural. However, “Munch” is pronounced with a k-like sound, not ch. (Moonk) I’m thus inclined to think that the plural should be formed with a simple s. Anyone else have a theory (or reference) for this?

Anonymous hmmm, my surname ends in “ch” and if I were to pluralize it I would just add an s. Partially because of the Germanic background involved, where is not so common to add “es” to pluralize things.
