The Matrix for Chickens

Holy Mary full of grace, that’s weird. Via Boing Boing, we find this video of a profoundly bizarre machine:

No science fiction movie has ever had a machine as creepy as the E-Z Catch Harvester, a machine that uses rapidly rotating brushes to catch chickens and convey them into pens.

The website reports that the harvester enables “less operator fatigue.” That dude vacuuming up the chickens looks very relaxed.

I don’t eat red meat, and always buy organic chicken. Can you do this to chickens and still qualify as ‘organic’? Of course, I couldn’t write about this without referencing The Meatrix.

“Organic” products are not regulated by the government. However, there are some independent certification boards — that’s where you get “certified organic”, as opposed to just “organic”. However, in BC, it sounds like the organic board would allow this weird chicken harvester. See page 57 of their manual. That’s assuming the harvester is considered humane. If you see the low standards for qualifying as organic chicken, it’s not hard to imagine the contraption is humane.

Thanks for posting this Darren; the more the word gets out the better. I have been slacking a bit in my goal to only buy free-range and organic animal products but this reinforces my resolve.

yes good post Darren. This is a major problem, and the rabbit hole goes much deeper than this. I have had the displeasure of watching some of the PETA videos.
Hopefully I will reach my goal of changing my diet to nearly all veggie.
Right now I try to abide by the ‘organic’ only chicken rule also …no red meat. My main staple is shrimp which I can justify according to my C.L.N.S diet thesis ….. Creatures with Limited Nervous systems
