Who Should Play Wonder Woman?

I see, via Slashdot and various other places, that Buffy auteur Joss Whedon is going to write and direct an adaptation of Wonder Woman:

“There’s no one better than Joss to adapt the legendary Wonder Woman comic book character created in the 1940s into a dynamic feature film for 21 st century audiences,” producer Joel Silver added. “Wonder Woman was the first great female superhero to emerge from comic books and later inspire millions of fans in her television incarnation, but unlike her counterparts Batman and Superman, this groundbreaking heroine has yet to be reinvented for the feature film arena.”

I’m a big fan of Whedon, and am glad he’s writing the screenplay as well. But who will play Wonder Woman? Here’s a short list of potentials (heh), in descending order of preference:

  • Carrie Anne Moss
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar
  • Jennifer Garner
  • Catherine Zeta Jones
  • Angelina Jolie
  • Winona Ryder
  • Lucy Lawless

Ms. Moss would be a great choice, because she’s mature (as I’ve always thought of Wonder Woman as 35 or so) and has that wonderful haunted quality.

I read somewhere recently that Charisma Carpenter of Buffy/Angel fame was/is being considered. http://www.imdb.com/gallery/scrapbook/60/Sbk/60/6033200_2_12.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Carpenter,%20Charisma

I vote for Lucy Lawless. Moss is way too skinny to play Wonder Woman.

Not sure if she’s being considered or not, but a qualified addition to your list may be Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Jennifer in that stars and stripes Wonder Woman costume would transform me into an avid moviegoer again… ;-)

What about Eliza Dushku? I think her attitude would make a fine addition to Wonder Woman’s accessories.

I agree about the ‘35-ish’ comment, and because of that think Lauren Graham would be great. Apparently she even did some stunts in The Pacifier, and she’s got a great figure for WW.

Janeane Garofalo. That’d teach ‘em.

Morena Bacharrin from Firefly.

why did no onw consider FABIANA TAMBOSI for the role of wonder woman?….i mean people she does fit the description in the Looks department!

Michelle Rodriguez would be perfect, IMO. PERFECT.

I like that the director likes to pick lesser known actors….I vote for Sarah Lancaster as the new Wonder Woman

I second Morena Baccarin. I find most of the above list un peu..butch.

Do any of you guys realize that NONE of the potential choices have blue eyes (a well known wonder woman attribute) except for Lucy Lawless?

But of course she’s last on the list…

i never saw FABIANA TAMBOSI until now, when i saw her i saw wonder woman!!! another one that fits in the description will be Alyssa Milano!

Alyssa Milano is the perfect candidate for wonder woman. She has a mature body and a great personality.
