My First Funeral Industry Blog

Last month, I expressed my frustration about how hard it is to find the ten most popular blogs for a given topic. I happened to use the funeral industry as an example. Today, Mel Pennington emailed me. He’s a funeral director, embalmer and blogger. He’s just started a blog, and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of funeral-related entries, but give him time. I do note, with a slightly-worrying irony, that when I click on ‘Play’ in his blog’s navigation bar, you get this funeral home (which is a great-looking site, though they should lose the music). I’m sure it’s just a temporary issues. I shouldn’t cast aspersions, because my site’s been full of Latin text for months.

UPDATE: I was linking to the wrong blog there. Thanks to BT for sorting me out.

Well, here’s a funeral blog oriented towards the profession. I haven’t found an audience as yet, so the posts are minimal but they each relate specifically to funeral service.

Sorry, didn’t post that the way I wanted to.

That’s the URL. I’m still getting used to blogging. As you already know, we don’t do very much of it in our profession.

Eventually, a blog on the funeral industry!

Hey, Mel Pennington. Lose the music. Anybody who has background music on their website should be socked in the mouth. And while you’re at it, lose all the stuff about you and your staff and your facility, etc. Funeral service is not about you. It’s about the life of the person who died. Your website may be pretty but it’s pretty antiquated.

Ruffalo,
Not sure what you are referring to when you mention that our site is antequated or that we don’t celebrate life. We actually were the first in our state to do just that?

Darren, thank you for your call for Funeral Blogs. Although this is a couple of years after your original post, I have two to inform you about. http://www.fromthehep.com is my personal blog to convey information and tutorials to funeral professionals. The second one is http://yourfuneralchapel.blogspot.com and is a Virtual Funeral Home that I can use to show funeral directors how to use a blog to help promote themselves.

We’ve had a blog on end-of-life issue for some time now. Having spent nearly 40 years in the traditional funeral business, our president made the decision to go online only as that aspect of our company began to grow. We started a blog to help educate consumers on important caregiving and funeral planning issues.

Our company, Buy and Sell Cemetery Plots (http://www.buyandsellcemeteryplots.com/) has just started a blog to help inform people why it is important to pre-plan funeral services and their need for a cemetery plot. Our blog is located at http://buyandsellcemeteryplots.wordpress.com. We welcome all comments, questions, or suggestions.

TheFuneralSite.com just launched a new look and a new blog. The whole site is directed to consumers doing funeral planning. People can ask a director a question, learn about the thousands of things to do with cremated remains, review a funeral home and talk on the forum. It’s a all in one new content site for funeral planning.

I just recently did quite a bit of research on non-traditional funeral practices. I noticed the lack of blogs regarding this, but did my best to cope. I’m surprised that there is not more coverage considering the phenomenal amount of revolutionary funeral methods, like online funerals and fireworks with human remains.

My blog is there to take the lid off the funeral industry. As an 18 year veteran I’ve seen every dirty trick in the book to seperate the grieving from their money. I have asked forgiveness and this blog is my penance.

As a Funeral Director/Embalmer for 34 years, just want to know how many others have developed Autoimmune Diseases, Neurological Diseases, and Lung problems. Did you know OSHA has never done a long term study on FORMALDEHYDE and the Funeral Industry, over 600k in lobbing my one group to stop any study, but the FEMA trailers are recalled in such a short time. I personally know of FDs all across the country. This is something we must look into. This wonderful chemical is killing us, I think it is time for us to join together to find out why, this is allowed to continue.

I have something so new and amazing to share with the world that could help increase a funeral homes profit by selling more products. They sell in sets that uniquely connect them to their lost loved one forever. I am pleased to present custom and unique wooden caskets and urns that are heart shaped; a set of 2 placed together make a whole heart. You just have to see this to understand how amazing it is. Be among the first to get in on this refreshingly new concept.
