Am I Delivered From My Invoicing Despair?

Invoicing may be my least favourite monthly job. You’d think asking people for deserved money would be fun, but it’s not. It’s tedious and administrative and takes far too much time. I recently read about Blinksale (nice looking site, too–very 37 Signals), a website that promises to reduce my invoicing blues.

We’ve set up an account, and it looks very promising. Unfortunately, I have already encountered an issue. We invoice in three different currencies (Canadian dollars, American dollars and Euros). As far as I can tell, there’s no way to set currency on a client-to-client basis. I suppose the work-around is to have three different accounts, but that’s pretty ugly and will screw up the invoice numbering. We’ve sent an enquiry to their support department, so maybe they can provide some advice.

This is the latest in a series of services concerned with personal outsourcing.

(I’m the developer for Blinksale) Thanks for your comments, Darren. We’re definitely trying to listen hard to feedback, so I’ll make a note about supporting per-client currencies. I can’t say for certain it will happen, but I definitely hope we can find a way to make Blinksale useful for you.

Andrea: Does QuickBooks have a Web front-end that one can use? More than one person in my company does invoicing every month, so the Web angle makes a ton of sense. Also, we don’t do our own bookkeeping, so I don’t need the rest of QuickBooks’ functionality.

You’d be surprised what Quickbooks can do for you. It allows you (and other creators of invoices) to log into the Quickbooks file via a web interface and create invoices, submit expense reports, set up bills to be paid, approve payments for processing… I could go on but I think you should just go look at the most recent versions of Quickbooks and see what they can do. Blinksale looks like a cool gadget but why introduce another element in your administrative process?
