25 Greatest Film Scores

The American Film Institute loves lists. Their latest is the top 25 American film scores. Here are the top ten:

#1 STAR WARS
#2 GONE WITH THE WIND
#3 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
#4 PSYCHO
#5 THE GODFATHER
#6 JAWS
#7 LAURA
#8 THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
#9 CHINATOWN
#10 HIGH NOON

I’m not a big film score aficionado. The best scores are the ones you don’t notice. I did notice the inclusion of The Mission at #22. Every self-respecting undergrad intellectual owned this CD in the early nineties.

I had “The Mission” soundtrack, and I was an undergrad intellectual in the early nineties, but I am in no way self-respecting. I resent the exclusion.

Kudos to the AFI for including “High Noon” in the top 25, and boo-dos for excluding “The Untouchables”…at least it was nominated.

No Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? Bah!

Yeah, that was a good movie. It was also part of my indoctrination in to the family beliefs. Another good one is “Romero.” Much more poignent because it’s an “indigenous” movement.
