Back from Ucluelet

I’m back in town after three nights and four days of relaxation, hiking and photography. Despite the fact that the region gets over three meters of rain (three meters!) each year, we had clear skies across the board. Wildlife spotted include black bears (from a very safe distance), otters, seals, sea lions, ospreys, herons, kingfishers and the endangered marbled muirlet.

Photos are here. They include possibly the most disgusting photo I’ve ever taken (this is probably a close second).

Incidentally, I’d definitely recommend the Tauca Lea Resort in Ucluelet. It’s not the Wickaninnish Inn, but they’re great, spacious, self-catering units just south of Ucluelet.
