Bees 1, Irishman 0

Some friends from Ireland are in town at the moment. One of them is related to Philip McCabe, Irish apiarist. He (Philip, not my friend) recently failed in his attempt to break the world’s record for the largest ‘bee beard’:

An Irish beekeeper has failed to take the world record for attracting the most bees onto his body after managing a 200,000-strong ‘bee beard’.

Wearing little more than underpants and goggles, Philip McCabe, 59, failed to top the 1998 record set in the US of 87.5lb (40kg), or 350,000 bees.

As the awesome photos that accompany the story illustrate, ‘beard’ is a bit of a misnomer (the BBC rightfully puts it in single quotes). The man is covered in a thick carpet of bees. He clearly needs to fatten himself up, so that he has more surface area to cover with bees.
