Has Anybody Seen “Japanese Story”

It’s a 2003 movie set in Australia starring Toni Collette and Gotaro Tsunashima. While laid up today, I was surfing between it and the USA-Latvia men’s hockey game (hah, hah). Unfortunately, I missed an important plot point in Japanese Story, and want to know what happened. The Web has been irritatingly repsectful of spoiling the film.

Incidentally, it was a pretty enjoyable film, and Collette’s performance is rock solid. As it turns out, she is actually Australian.

UPDATE: Thanks to Randi, the mystery is solved.

Yup, saw it last week. Been meaning to see it for a while, and finally got around to it.

I saw it at the theatre a couple of years ago and thought it was a great movie.

Thanks everybody. I happened to see Randi’s email first, so I asked him. If he doesn’t know, I try the others.

I actually saw ‘Goodnight and Good Luck’ in 2006, so it makes a brief appearance on this list. Here’s what I said:

“8/10 - Features some excellent performances and has an effective documentary style. I thought it could have done a better job of making the story relevant to today. If the portrayal of Edward R. Murrow is accurate, he had an incredibly dry wit and smoked like a frickin’ chimney. He died of lung cancer at 57.”

If I’d seen it in 2005, it might have snuck into the #10 spot on my top ten list.

Thanks for that Darren. I intend seeing that film. Overall 2005 has being a good year for films. Some really good ones. Certainly, relative to 2004 (”Million dollar baby”, best film? go figure.)
