It’s Time to Reintroduce Super Socco
James and I attended a very exciting Whitecaps game this evening–the home team equalized in extra time. While watching the game, the subject of Super Socco came up.
For those of the wrong age or geography, Super Socco was a drink box of the eighties. I mentioned it previously, and Andrea offered a great description in the comments:
Super Socco was one of the first drink boxes. It came from Dairyland. It tasted a bit like Gatorade. There were three flavours: regular, grape and orange. Super Socco sponsored youth soccer and other sports programs. The Whitecaps were a hot team at the time, and I’m sure that was part of the message — a soccer sports drink.
Kids dug it, but I’m pretty sure it tasted awful. I also was surprised to learn that James drank Super Socco in Winnipeg. Apparently it was branded with BC sports teams, but was sold elsewhere.
Regardless, now is the time for Dairyland to reintroduce Super Socco, with a suitably nostalgic or ironic marketing campaign. The Super Socco drinking kids of the eighties are today’s parents of young children. I think it’d be the perfect time to kick it Socco-style all over again.
