Creepy, Brain Wrecking Game

I’ve got 62 electrum pieces for whoever can explain how this web game works. I tried it twice, and it guessed correctly both times. Eep.

I don’t know what an electrum piece is.

But, I think I know how this works. The only possible answers are multiples of 9 — whatever number you pick you end up with 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, … 81.

Every multiple of 9 is assigned the same symbol. You don’t see the pattern when you look — because you’re just searching out your own number.

I don’t have an intuitive explanation as to *why* every answer is a multiple of 9. I just cranked it through an excel spreadsheet, and that’s the pattern.

It helps to confuse you by shuffling the symbols each time you play the game. So a different symbol (within the inherent limits of having only a pool of 9 images from which to choose) is associated with the multiples of 9 each time.

A little algebra helps (where the two digits are designated a and b)

x = (a * 10 + b) – (a + b)
= a * 9

so just multiply your first digit by 9 for the answer

Ah, well, that clears things up. Mind you, it’s less fun now, but that’s one of life’s little truths.

Yeah I figured that one out pretty quick when I saw it awhile ago. Kind of ruins the fun, right?

It’s even less impressive if you’re bad at math and do the subtraction wrong. :)

this is rly ewasy, u can only get so many numbers by adding the 2 digit numbers together like all the 2 digit numbers in the 10′s make 9 and all the 2 digit numbers in the 20′s make 18. Theres onother game that makes it, just type in flash mind reader on google and ull get it :)
