Questions to Ask Before You Get Married

Via Meg, here are 15 questions that you may want to kick around with your prospective bride or groom before the big day:

1) Have we discussed whether or not to have children, and if the answer is yes, who is going to be the primary care giver?

2) Do we have a clear idea of each other’s financial obligations and goals, and do our ideas about spending and saving mesh?

3) Have we discussed our expectations for how the household will be maintained, and are we in agreement on who will manage the chores?

I was tempted to pick my favourites, instead of just a random sampling, but that gets awful personal awful fast.

I didn’t got through the 100+ additional comments associated with the original article.

Three things I wished I’d known more about in my first marriage were:

1. spending and saving styles (and how do you fee about individual sources of versus pooled money [mine and thine]).

2. What’s your fighting style? Kitchen sink? Hit and run [aka the SCUD]? Do you need space after a figtht to lick wounds? If some one is a pursuer and the other is a wounds-licker, some one’s feelings are going to get hurt more often.

3. Are you handy or hopeless? (That identifies if you’re going to agree on fixer-up furnishings, abodes, and, to some degree I have noticed, how you commit to your partner and what you’ve got going between the two of you when you hit a rough patch.)
