The Other White Meat: Don’t Believe the Hype
Speaking of cease and desist letters, SWT has an interesting story about a breast milk advocate getting some unwanted legal attention from the National Pork Board:
The Lactivist is a blog about breastfeeding and human milk banking. It’s mostly a gathering place for breastfeeding moms to come and share their thoughts and experiences and to keep up to date on the latest issues in the fight for the rights of a child to eat in public. To help fund the site (and to raise money for the non-profit milk banks) I have a CafePress store that sells t-shirts with funny pro-breastfeeding slogans. Things like “Milk on Tap” and “That’s my baby’s lunch you’re staring at.”
Thus…the shirt that read “the other white milk.”
Hilarious. It’s been Dugg, so you can guess which way this is going to go for the pork people.
In describing my eating habits, I used to say “I don’t eat red meat”. Then people would say, “what about pork? It’s the other white meat”. For the ones who weren’t joking (and there were too many) I’d try to explain to them that that was simply effective marketing that they’d come to believe as a truth.
Now I say “I don’t eat anything that had (exactly) four legs.” That’s the most satisfactory qualifier I’ve come up with.
