Saving the Rain Forest in Second Life

The folks at Converseon (a competitor to Capulet, I guess), pitched me on their project to save rare trees via Second Life. This video pretty much explains the whole shebang:

If you’re an American Express card holder, they want you to vote on the project so that it can obtain funding.

There are a slough of creative social change projects in Second Life. Another one I learned about at Northern Voice last year was a project to sell virtual yaks to buy animals for actual Tibetan families. The virtual yak gave virtual milk. What was cooler, though, was that they hadn’t done any walking animation for the yak, so it was more of a HoverYak™.

If anyone reading wants to support the project please be sure you are voting for the project titled:

“The Virtual Forest Project. One Million Votes. Easy.”

The voting process has been confusing some people - but they’re all good causes!

Btw - I’m not sure about you but personally I don’t really see anyone as a ‘competitor’ in the social media space. Every piece of good work someone does benefits the whole industry, and helps us move another step forward as we revolutionize communication.

This project is the only social media focused project of the final 50, and we’re supporting it purely via social media - with a bit of lucky maybe alongside planting a million trees we can provide a powerful demonstration of the power of social media for positive societal change.
