The Savages Looks Pretty Great

I have a real affection for well-acted, off-beat family dramas (I guess they’re referred to as ‘dramedies’, but I’m still coming around to that word) like Little Miss Sunshine and The Squid and the Whale (I’d sneak Wonder Boys in there, too). The Savages, a new film starring the excellent Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman, seems to fit in that mold. Here’s a trailer, courtesy of Row Three:

If you haven’t seen it already, I’d recommend renting the movie “Junebug” with Amy Adams.

Excellent, EXCELLENT recommendation Jason. That’s an amazing little film and Adams was well deserving of the Oscar nod for her performance.

And “The Savages” has its moments. Enough that I’m willing to see it again just to be sure I didn’t miss anything the first time around in the midst of festival madness.
