Will the Canucks Make the Playoffs?

I was talking to somebody about this morning. I doubt they will, but I really have no idea. Less idea than usual when it comes to the Canucks. So, let us vote:

I can’t find a “make the playoffs” prop bet to figure the Vegas-calculated odds, but here’s a Western Conference Champion betting line.

It’s a fair guess that the odds of a team becoming the Conference Champions will usually track their odds of making the playoffs. Since we know eight (half) of the teams in the conference get into the post-season, the eight teams with the best odds are odds-on favorites for the playoffs.

The Canucks are tied for the 7th-best odds, which puts their playoff-making chances at about 50-50. They’re right on the bubble.

@Ryan What’s a prop bet? For no particular reason, I’m not a gambler.

Yep, that’s what I figure right at the moment. If the Canucks make it in, it’ll be by the skin of their teeth.

Pedant alert: there are only 15 teams in each conference.

They’ll make the playoffs, just squeaking in a competitive conference. The Swedes are hitting their stride and the supporting crew are overachieving.

It won’t matter, though, because they’re going to move the team to a southern United States city anyway.

A “prop bet” is a “proposition bet,” or a bet on basically anything but the final score of an event. I’m probably not using the term quite as a degenerate gambler would, either, but the general idea is that it’s any unusual bet.

TSN has an article that explains it fairly well, in the context of the heavy amount of prop betting on the Super Bowl.

They are not going to make the playoffs. If you want them to get into the playoffs you’ll believe this too.

If I’ve learned one thing in all my years of following the Canucks, it’s this: optimism never works.

Yes the Canucks will make the playoffs in the 6~8 seed meaning a likely first round matchup with San Jose or Detroit or possibly Calgary. San Jose would be the least desirable of these choices.
