Check Out Our New Website

We're happy to announce version 3.0 of www.capulet.com is live. This latest version updates the site's look and feel and emphasizes our focus on developing online marketing campaigns for software companies.

The site was designed by Mark Yuasa who has created some gorgeous sites for Capulet clients, and features photography by Kris Krug. We're really pleased with the result--we like its friendly professionalism (or is that professional friendliness?).

Julie's PR Tip of the Day

My inbox has been hit recently with sales pitches for online PR and wire services that "make communicating with journalists and analysts easier and more successful." If only signing up for such a service would get the phones ringing with reporters.

If you've ever run a media relations campaign for a small business, you know that good coverage only comes from building relationships with journalists who write about products and services in your industry.

While online services might help manage your campaigns, old fashioned research and personalized, focused story pitches are your best tools for getting media attention. Keep your credit card in your wallet and instead put the time and effort into pitching the right story to the right reporter and you'll start to see results.

Capulet Launches Client Websites

We've been busy getting Capulet's new site online, but we've also been launching websites for our clients. These two are websites for clients in Ireland:

CFOServices.ie - They provide accounting and bookkeeping services for the high-tech sector. We built a site that spoke to the typical startup's pain points, and explained their services in plain language that doesn't require an MBA to understand.

Eurocommerce.ie - Though we didn't write the content, Capulet designed and re-structured this new version of Eurocommerce's site. Eurocommerce provides realtime payment processing services, and wanted a professional look that would appeal to both financial institutions and merchants.

Eurocommerce's site is powered by Bryght, a hosted version of the popular open source content management system Drupal. Bryght allows Eurocommerce staff to make updates and add pages to the site without learning HTML or working through a web designer.

Congratulations to SteelTrace

Steeltrace, a former Capulet client, was recently acquired by Compuware for US $20 million. We're not taking any credit--they've got a great product that always got positive reviews from customers and journalists. It couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of guys.

Darren talks to the HTCE about Citizen Journalism (and blogging of course)

Darren recently moderated a panel entitled "What Citizen Journalism Means to Corporate Communications" for a combined session of the High Tech Communicators Exchange and the Canadian PR Society. The panel featured Tod Maffin, Roland Tanglao and Kris Krug.

The discussion was lively and wide-ranging, covering how mainstream media, citizen journalists--like bloggers and podcasters--and corporate communicators interact. Here's Roland's summary of the event, and here are some photos.

High Tech Marketing Resources

We're always looking for new articles, weblogs and studies that we can learn from. We often blog about these on Capulet's weblog. Here are a couple we've found recently:

Pinko Marketing - Really interesting think about marketing in a 'post-Cluetrain' world from Tara Hunt and her community wiki.

10 Tips on Writing for the Living Web - The best piece about writing for the Web that we've read in a long time.

The PR Playbook - A piece from CBS News about how to discourage a reporter from chasing a story.
